HD Sports Report #7

HD Sports Report
November 23rd – 27th, 2006

Turkey Time!
Yes boys and girls, children of all ages, it’s that time again. Time to wake up in the morning to a light family breakfast with maybe, just maybe a little football mixed in. I saw some replays of Thanksgiving day games of the past and for some reason the Leon Lett (Dallas Cowboy) game sticks way out in my mind. The mere mention of that mans name should bring back all sorts of memories of that famous snow/sleet game in Dallas. For me it just doesn’t get any better than trying to pick up a blocked Miami Dolphins Field Goal and booting the ball into the waiting arms of the Miami Dolphins who re-kicked the field goal for a game winner. 1993 was a particularly bad year for Mr. Lett because as you may remember, earlier that year in SuperBowl XXVII he was returning a fumble for a touchdown when Don Beebe stripped the ball before he crossed the goalline for a Buffalo Bills TouchBack. So here’s to you Leon on the 13th anniversary of your blunder and all we can do is ask for equally great moments this year to limit the conversations with our family.

Have a great ThanksGiving everyone and enjoy this week in HiDef!

4:15pm EST: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys FOX in 720p

8:00pm EST: Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs NFL Network in 1080i
The good news is that this game is in 1080i. The bad news is most people aren’t going to be able to watch it unless they get NFL network which is an upgrade on standard cable. To me this is just really low of the NFL not to give everyone the chance to see this game. Standard advertising dollars just not cutting it anymore hey boys?

Thanksgiving day legend and first RB to come equipped will all wheel steering.

College Football
8:00pm EST: Boston College Eagles vs. Miami Hurricanes ESPNHD in 720p
Screw it, this whole deal with the NFL sucks so I am watching College Football Thursday night instead. I just don’t like the whole idea of taking sports further and further away from every fan out there. If you feel the same, this isn’t a bad alternative at all.

NHL
7:00pm EST: Vancouver Canucks vs. Nashville Predators HDNet in 1080i

Texas absolutely needs to win to keep their slim chances of a BCS title game alive. Right now its Florida and Texas with the outside shots at the title game to replace Michigan as the #2 team. More on this later.

8:00pm EST: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. USC Trojans ABC in 720p
This is the last regular season big game of the year and so many things could possibly be tied into the result. First off, in most sane sportswriters minds, if USC wins this game they are the team that will face Ohio State in the BCS title game. As much as I enjoyed the Michigan/Ohio St. game last weekend I do not need to see it again and here is why. If you allow a team that lost in the regular season a second shot at the best team in the nation, it opens up a huge can of worms should Michigan win the National Championship. Would they have to play again to make it a best out of 3? Also who really thinks Michigan can win this game when they have lost the last 3 meetings? They just aren’t going to beat them even if this game is played on Planet Krypton. If you lose in the regular season there should be consequences for that loss no matter how good that team is. By playing favorites here we are totally ignoring solid teams from other conferences like Florida or USC. Why not give another conference a chance at the title and see if they can knock off the top squad. Last but not least, both Ohio State and Michigan played 2 less games than any other team vying for the championship and that doesn’t sit well with me. My mind…USC or Florida……end of discussion!

4:00pm EST: New York Giants vs. Tennessee Titans FOX in 720p

4:00pm EST: Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots FOX in 720p
4:00pm EST: Oakland Raiders vs. San Diego Chargers CBS in 1080i

8:15pm EST: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Indianapolis Colts NBC in 1080i

This game had so much potential half way through the season but with Donovan McNabb’s injury, this should not be a major challenge for the Colts. This is a big time injury for McNabb since he has been so banged up throughout his career and at the beginning of next we will see how he rebounds (if he is fully able to).
