Overall DRM is really a waste of money, if you make copy protection, someone is going to break it and those that want to copy it will, and those that want to copy it will.
The big problem is that companies think piracy = lost profits, when it really does not, just because someone pirates something does not mean that they would have bought the product in the first place. Its copyright infringement, NOT THEFT.
The only thing that results from this struggle is the average consumer is stripped of the fair use rights and more and more of the tech savy crowd turn to piracy as an alternative to gain those rights back.
iPod has been cracked for a long time, you can only put songs on with iTunes, but with the proper software you can rip all the songs off a friends iPod to your own PC.
