I had many of the same questions- especially after reading the manual that stated that the only true source of 1080p was the computer DVI port (not the dvi hdcp- which could cause problems as that is the port that many cable/satellite providers use). I was also disappointed about the hdmi comment (no 1080p) but was relieved to read the update on the westinghouse website. I was confused, because when I read all of the reviews, they all stated that 1080p could be produced through ALL of the ports. I guess the reviewers tests revealed what westinghouse didn't know- or for some stupid reason didn't want to advertise. I too wondered about the 1920x540 display with 1080i. I believe this is normal and is actually how 1080i is displayed. I was concerned at first because I had read some low end models would use 540 and over scan it twice to produce 1080i. If what I read is correct, this set does not do this and instead produces true 1080i/p. All in all I think this is a great set. I got it for 1599 with a 2 year warranty. None of the issues that others have talked about i.e. banding, dead pixels etc..
