Before I started directing, I really didn't realize the number of responsibilities that a director has. Not only does he have to have a good knowledge of the technical aspects of film making, such as what lenses to use, film speed, finding the best angles, organize the special effects (if there are any) and edit the final product, he also has to have an idea of the types of set design, props and wardrobe that he wants to use, work on structuring the script with regard to how he wants to shoot it, and decide on what types of extras he needs. Last, but not least, he must cast the movie. For me, as a director, once that is done, my job has only just begun. I like working with actors; not all directors do. Conveying what you are trying to create in the film is an art in itself. Different actors come from a varying degree of techniques that they use in their craft so a director has to find a way to dialogue with the actor so they can translate for themselves what the director wants to see.

As a director, I believe in being prepared when I go on set. If I have a plan already then I can add and adjust very easily to those things that invariably happen spontaneously on set. After all, the concept of acting and making a movie is all about creativity. Creating something from written form to a visual medium is very similar to a potter throwing a new piece of clay on the wheel. Once the potter gives life and structure to that, he can lead the viewer on a journey created by the fantasy of his imagination.
