    DEREK GROVER

LOS ANGELES, CA, August 2002, this historic network TV pilot season saw a 1000% increase in the use of 24P HD over last year. Derek Grover alone managed to oversee the production of 15 network sitcom pilots, one single camera drama and four single camera comedies during the 6 week pilot season.

The studios lethargic transition from film to digital has been a two year process, which saw a lot of reluctance and negative perceptions turn to outright elation by the quality of images with a cost savings of $30,000 - $40,000 per half hour episode.

Now that the hammer has dropped, every major studio except for Warner Bros. has adopted 24P as their method of choice for shooting primetime multi-camera episodics. And next season Derek's going to attempt to transition all of the single camera shows as well.

This huge shift in the television production environment is only the tip of the iceberg for HiDef production, as major feature film producers continue to discuss the pros and cons of shooting HiDef, smaller budget films, under 10 million, are rushing to the digital medium, not to mention big budget Music Videos and Commercials.

High Definition is in it's infancy. But this season has witnessed such a rapid growth spurt, which should place it a giant in the next few years.
