Hi! What do people here think about DRM audio?
I suppose it doesn't protect anything, all it does is render the track you just paid to download completely worthless because you can't put it on your MP3 player!!!

This is the way out I guess!

There is a company (two guys) who are working to crack the IPOD but its tied up in legal battles right now. Supposedly they have found a way to do it and it works. They plan on selling it at a small charge. I have never used the software to linked to but if it works i say go for it. If the lawyers for this european company win then soon everything will be open and the games will begin.

I don't think that DRM is fair, simply for the fact that I can't play music, music that I paid for, on my mobile devices. It's just not fair, I don't want to listen to the mp3 only on my PC and if I paid for something, I want to be able to use that....
So I simply use Tunebite, a windows software tool to unprotect my music so that I can play audio/video files also on my mobile phone or mp3 player. It's totally legal because it does not crack DRM or something, it simply rerecords the files so that I can play them on other devices, besides my PC, doing that it can be said, that it is just for personal use, so another argument in stating that it is not illegal.

The history has shown us that the DRM technologies are becoming more and more restrictive and are taking away users' freedoms at an alarming rate!
The customer who pays his bucks has the right of making backup copies or transferring from one format to another when he purchases iTunes music for example. So... why not to try?

Overall DRM is really a waste of money, if you make copy protection, someone is going to break it and those that want to copy it will, and those that want to copy it will.

The big problem is that companies think piracy = lost profits, when it really does not, just because someone pirates something does not mean that they would have bought the product in the first place. Its copyright infringement, NOT THEFT.

The only thing that results from this struggle is the average consumer is stripped of the fair use rights and more and more of the tech savy crowd turn to piracy as an alternative to gain those rights back.


iPod has been cracked for a long time, you can only put songs on with iTunes, but with the proper software you can rip all the songs off a friends iPod to your own PC.

The fact that if you have both a PC and Mac you have to choose one computer to upload songs to your Ipod so its formatted either Mac or PC...

DRM is still a major problem in the online music and video industry. I hate DRM, and I’m sure 99% of the people reading this agree with me - DRM sucks. The only benefit is for the record companies, so that their music cannot be shared on file sharing/BitTorrent websites. It brings the user absolutely no benefits, and many drawbacks - including limiting what you can do with your music/video in almost every way possible. Whether it’s putting the file on your mobile phone, or wanting to use it on more than five computers.

DRM no DRM…. I just want to be able to play my media on any platform that I choose. DRM is like going into your local stereo shop and having to purchase a DVD player for each movie studio.

So now I found a great decission - MelodyCan converter (MelodyCan: Convert Any Purchased or Copied Audio and Video Files, Audio CD Ripper, YouTube Ripper Plug-in) which helps me to resolve drm-protection problem.
