Yes, no HDMI in the box after Sony bragged about HD starting with them. No bad is that. Very bad. You do not brag about being the best HD experience than put the user out for another 20 to 50 bucks for a cable on top of the 600 bones already paid. ![]() These are facts. Just because 5 out of a million do not complain means very little. The PS3 FAR from perfect. In fact at this point it is not much better than a PS2. Those PS2 users are online with the PS2 because they have NO choice. What else are they going to do except that what Sony has been given? Nothing. Nothing they can do. And since the service is free, they cannot complain either. Rumble is used well in many games. In fact in recent and upcoming games they are getting creative. In Double Agent it is used for well with other games making good use in the future. Now let's see how many dev uses Sony "afterthought" lets copy Nintendo motion sensing? Not many. In fact for the Wii not many devs are making good use of motion yet outside of Wii sports. You can keep debating but you will always be the minority. L8

And BTW, only one person in the media complained about the difficulty of setting the PS3 up and out of the box functionality. Until he mentioned this roughly a week after launch, there was not a single complaint in this regard on many a board. In fact, on many of the other message boards I frequent, most of the people complaining about this issue don't even have the console. Those Xbox users are Live subscribers because they have no choice. I don't exactly remember Netscape offering Xbox Multiplayer for less. Each console maker has their services built in as a monopoly. Hell, if I had my choice, I'd say screw all of them and just go X-Fire on all my consoles. I'm tired of Sonys approach, I'm tired of Microsofts approach, and I'm damn tired of friend codes for every game lame shit Nintendo flings around. But I don't have that choice. So I have a username, a gamertag, and a friendcode, and shaking my head at all three companies in this war. If it was Hideo Kojima or Shigeru Miyamoto, or even Yuji Naka leading the entire industry, I would agree Rumble is needed. But right now, rumble is primarily used to indicate explosions, hits, hitting a wall, all very rudimentary things, as if my tiny brain cannot register the giant long armed bastard nailing me against a wall and slashing away is damaging to my person without my controller vibrating it's constant, unweilding, and uninteresting indicator in my palm. Rumble, as a game feature, is long overdue in rising above the gimmick. Hell, they've had since Operation Wolf to make the exception the rule. But right now, it's about as useful as the gamesharing on PSP. Which is exactly why I usually disable it. You know, for such a Microsoft fan, you'd think you would be willing to give Microsoft the ^5 on tilt controls for their Sidewinder controller on PC. Especially considering the tilt controller hit the market many, many months before Sony patented their motion control on May 12, 1999... mere days before PS2 was to be debuted, leading many to believe the PS2 would feature tilt controls. Or how PSP had a tilt dongle announced and shown before even the Revolution was publically debuted. As in, before the controllers or even the shape of the console was shown. I won't claim SixAxis as an innovation, but I sure as hell won't give Nintendo that ^5 when it belongs to Microsoft. Now, you said your piece, and I've said mine. I'm not saying PS3 is flawless but what I am saying is that it seems your list was compiled by the top ten PS3 complaints overheard by 360 hyping EBgames employees. Most of them seem petty, and several of them have already been fixed. And please, what did you really want from this thread? Did you want someone to actually offer up a counterpoint or did you, like the entire braindead masses of the Wii60 FTW movement, merely want 30-50 posts saying "LOLOL!!! ! ZOMG! PS3 is TEH SUX!" chanting you name in chorus for "telling how it is?" I've seen your posts on Joystiq. And for the record, system admins can still be fanboys. The only question at this point is whether this is the cool kind of system admin who can take a countering point in the same spirit of debate the internet was built for, or are youthe kind of system admin who believes that, once someone has argued you into a corner, that person should no longer be able to post? Wii60 FTW.... |

I am a fan of technology and advancement, something SONY has never done very well. And yes, Microsoft was first with a tilt controller as I am a old PC gamer. In fact, the first PS3 controller looked much like the old sidewinder freestyle. My point about the controller is Sony copied Nintendo and MS. The motion is from Nintendo and the center button is from the 360 controller. This is FACT not me being a fanboy. My comments about the online service is this. Sony users cannot complain or expect more because the service is FREE. When you pay for a service you expect a certain level of quality and updates/upgrades in the future. You seemed to have missed the point. You really need to keep things in prospective. You are calling me a fanboy when you fail to understand the true definition. A true definition of a fanboy is someone who backs up something without a good reason, as you are doing with the PS3. Notice that no one else shares your thoughts. And I am not the only one. NYTIMES, CNN and TIME all gave the PS3 a DON'T BUY and bust of the year. This is not because they are fanboys it is because they are telling the truth. Facts are facts regardless of whether you want to acknowledge them. I never said PS3 sucks, I gave reasons why the console is not worth the cash or loyality. Do NOT stretch the truth! Also, tone down the "fanboy" comments. Remember, you replied to my story. You are taking it a bit too far. Stick to opinion or facts or say nothing at all (keep it civil). And for the record, Wii60 is a great combo. 2 great consoles for the price one. Makes a lot of sense if you think about it. It was never about an alliance. It was about getting people to spend their money wisely. L8

Okay, okay. I concede. I did come off rather dickish... *sigh* That's what I get for usually hanging around Gamefaqs....
I do have some friends hanging back on PS3 waiting for the better games. All five of my friends that own it have nothing but the highest praise and I keep finding hidden "this is boss" features in the console where I wouldn't expect it. Like how backwards compatibility in PS3 actually emulates the multitap so four player is a snap. A huge suprise since, at a party, I just whipped out Ratchet & Clank 4 and said "Let's see if this works." Sadly, because of the upscaling lacks, I had to drop back to the home menu and lower the resolution so my TV could do the upscaling PS3 doesn't. But as for whether it's a rip off, well, that all depends on personal preference. Also, I'm sorry but I still don't want to give Nintendo credit for the SixAxis. It was patented before Gamecube was even announced. I'll give Microsoft credit for motion sensing. Home button? That was on PSP. Placement, I'll give credit where it's due and say that's a 360 rip but the concept is a Sony thing. Also, face button placement comes directly from SNES (fitting since PSX was supposed to be an SNES addon) and the pressure shoulder buttons come from Sega Saturns analog stick. And really, CNN, Time, and NYTimes as sources of valid video game opinios? Aren't these the same people who believe PSP comes preloaded with porn, GTA leads to violent kids, and WiiSports has never been seen before when two years earlier, they were all doing articles on XaviX? Isn't this the same Time magazine that copped out and but a mirror on the cover? If a magazine like Play magazine came forward with "This is a ripoff, don't buy" then I'd pay a little more attention. Most magazines agree PS3 looks fairly anemic at launch and that, I'll agree with. |

anyone who thinks that the AVERAGE consumer is going to pick up a PS3, turn it on, and not be confused by everything at the "dashboard" or whatever name they gave it, is smoking crack...there are many many different settings that you can change which the AVERAGE consumer knows nothing about...do you think the average consumer knows what PCM audio is? i think not...while most of us might know all about these things most people dont...kudos to sony for making a user friendly interface
and then theres the online component...holy cow...in one word, AWFUL...microsoft has made a complete mockery of sony in this area...xbox live is everything a unified online service needs to be...and yes i own (sadly) a PS3...wish i could take it back...the only saviour is the BD playback capability. other than that one thing i must say, Sony is in deep shi*! the fact i can walk into any wal mart in my area here in San Diego and find a PS3 more often than not should send a definitive message to everyone who thinks sony will still be on top this gen...at a whopping $600 plus $30 for an HDMI cable, then another $50 for a controller, $60 for a game, then add a BD at say $30, you come to a grand total of $770...thats not counting a headset for online if you choose to go that route...granted you can say the XBOX 360 and the add on will come to that same price but the HD DVD drive is an add on...its not like people have to buy it...if they choose not to they can come back later and get it if they choose...people dont like being forced to buy something they dont want, or for the average consumer dont know anything about. so long sony, nice knowing you

You know, Sony is only released in twop regions and has 1.5 million consoles sold, right? 1.5 in two months isn't exactly a bad thing. Especially for a $600 console.
And Sony dying? It took ten years of red for Sega to die. And while the PS3 isn't doing well, the PS2 and PSP are pure profit and still selling well. (Yes, we all know DS is kicking PSPs ass but PSP is still usually selling about 70K a week in Japan alone and that's NOY a bad thing). And even if the Playstation brand suddenly turned into nothing but a money pit, you have the Bravia tvs turning profit, Cybershots are increasing in popularity, plus what we all know will pretty much save many a Sony Sectors ass this year, Spiderman 3. In fact, given a banner year of clusterfucks any one company can have (Immersion lawsuit, Laptop ordeals, and even the money pit of the PS3), the fact that Sony stocks are on a rise suddenly can only be considered a fact that Sony isn't going anywhere. I don't expect PS3 to start regaining lost ground until next christmas (although the march releases not only look tasty, but show up in time for second christmas), PS2 is showing no signs of slowing down and Sony is doing all it cane to make sure it's keeping their current cash cow alive. Having said that, I wish the PS3 was a little better on software. Another thing that is annoying the piss out of me is the multiplayer. Not online multiplayer but single machine multiplayer. And Microsoft is just as guilty about this. There should be a hell of a lot more four player splitscreen games than there are. The system takes four controllers, four controllers is the standard, why is Wii the only one doing this? The last three games I looked at for PS3 were literally "when I have friends over" and the lack of 4 player spiltscreen left those games on a shelf. And Microsoft is doing this too. The emphasis of online multiplayer at the expense of single machine multiplayer is getting pretty annoying. And if you think I'm unjustified in this bitch, I present the following. Super Bomberman Goldeneye Super Mario Kart This isn't a sector of gaming that should be left to sports games. |

Can't we all get along?!? lol.
First of all let me say that I am no fanboy. I have a 360, a PS3, a Chevy, and a Ford, and have yet to buy a WII. The PS3 is not a rip-off when you think about it. It's actually not expensive considering all what's in it. You have a BD player, PS & PS2 (Emotion chip inside), you can install Linux on it, and now with the new update dvd's, PS, & PS2 games are upconverted (although mediocre at best lol). Saying that it's bad that the PS3 didn't come with an HDMI cable because it's a say 'niche' kind of connection(?), is kind of like saying that MS is bad for not including a VGA adapter being that a lot of gamers are using their LCD desktop monitors and the XBOX 360 being able to be played on those monitors. With the PS3, you are legally able to upgrade your harddrive if you wish. Microsoft, does not make this able but instead offer you to buy a 120gb hdd for $180.00. That's not 'choice' as MS is always making big noise about 'choice'. Japan has always been a 'copycat' country, and they copy things and make it better. =\ Don't they say that imitation is the best form of flattery? lol. PSH will supposedly be released by the end of this year (In beta phase now) and you can kind of call it WOW vs. MS LIVE. Personally I think Sony is sandbagging the crap out of the PS3. At first that makes me mad, but I guess it's their strategy for the life of the PS3. They say the PS3 will last 10 years (We'll see about that lol). No current game are fully taking advantage of the cell processors at the moment. FFIII, they say are one of the games that will use about 3 of the cell processors. (correct me if I'm wrong). IMHO the one who's really doing the 'ripping off' is good ol' Billy Gates. lol One example is through MS LIVE. A lot of game developers wanted to give add-ons at no charge, but Microsoft said NO! I gave MS so much $$$ through the Marketplace lol. Another example is GHII. You have to pay something like 500 MS points to get like 3 out of all the original GH tracks that were free in the PS2. Sure they could say if you want those songs, go play on PS2, but at the least, they should have charged 500 MS points for ALL the original PS2 GH tracks instead of 500 pts for just 3 songs lol. Microsoft also should have well been able to include HDMI 1.3 (which most HDTV's include) on their new top of the line Elite. Check out this article: X360 Elite lacks PCM audio Also what about the 120gb hdd? Those who don't have an Elite, if they want to up their HDD, their only choice (legally) is to opt for the 120gb hdd for $180.00. Now, you and I both know that's a ridiculous price for an HDD, even for a notebook HDD. There were allegations against MS for overcharging, and MS's response was lame saying that that's the same price as if you would have purchased an external HDD of the same size. Last time I checked, for the price of MS's 120gb hdd, I could purchase instead a 500gb external hdd for 179.00. But even though, I wouldn't be able to use it on my 360 lol. Then there's the Banhammer MS threw down on a lot of folks in the 360 modding community. If MS truly wanted to stop the piracy, then they would have banned your LIVE account as well as the console ID. Instead they just banned the console that was modded. So now MS just forced you another 'choice' lol. Since your account hasn't been banned, just the console, you now have the choice to purchase another 360! Meanwhile those who modded their box to get free games instead of backing up their legit titles, will still be pirating games to play on their banned consoles. They just won't be able to play on LIVE. Good way to stop piracy eh? Piracy my ass lol. Banning the modder's console and not the account, thus forcing the banned console owner to buy a new console (MS was logging since last fall for those who played illegal backups), was just a business approach to try to cash in on more sales. Being that MS able to identify if the game you are playing on your 360 was original or not, logging all the people playing illegal backups since last year fall, and waiting until the release of the CRACKDOWN/HALO 3 beta to release the banahammer with NO warning (they could have said: Play one more backup and you're banned!) is IMHO a pretty fu*ked up way to up their sales some more. I love both companies to death, but really I think MS is the one ripping us off. But then again I'll still be playing 360 games, I'll still be playing/watching PS3 games/movies, and I'll still be giving $$$ to both MS and Sony LOL, but I guess my point really is that we are lucky that we get to bitch like this on forums. If there was only one company who made a video game console, we'd all be fu*ked if that company was lame lol. I guess we're lucky to have 'choice' eh? Sorry for the long post >.<
