Obligatory iPhone Update

Everyone seems pretty excited about the impending release of the iPhone, but the Los Angeles Times had a pretty good article this morning about the business implications of Apple joining the cell phone race.

It's interesting how a company can be so far ahead in one market (digital music and players, in Apple's case) and yet make up so little of another one (Mac computers only make up about 5% of that market). Which camp will the iPhone fall into?

I know MP3 phones are supposed to be the wave of the future, but personally, I'm fine with keeping my music, phone, and web browser on separate devices. Maybe I'll change my tune when that $600 price tag comes down, though.

Agreed, 600 bones is way too much for a glorified Ipod. It lacks many real features such as support for Enterprise mail and a removable battery (real cute). And the virtual qwerty keyboard will not be comfortable to use because the iPhone will be difficult to hold while typing (which is why slide-out qwerty keyboards are better).. Sure, the phone is pretty, but that is about it..
