Personally i think that HDDVD will win the war not only bc the disc plays both dvd and hddvd but the name also directs people to the fact that it is HD ! im sorry but blu-ray in no way seems HD or next gen

Personally I hope its Blu-Ray just for data backup reasons. 4.7 and 8 gb is not enough for me, and 25 gb just isnt a huge jump, 50 gb is more like it, but still I wish it was larger, it would still take 8 or more Blu-Ray Discs to back up my 400GB harddrive, or 16 HD-DVDs, or about 80 DVD+Rs.

Hard drive sizes are always going to outpace digital medium sizes. No matter what multiple copies of things are going to be needed, just save room for all the disks

as long as the majority of major production companies (ie. producers of summer blockbusters) support blu-ray oover HD-dvd, blu ray will win. People will choose to get the player with the most titles to choose from.

This is very viable and probably in the best interests of all companies and consumers.

Remember the debacle of DVD+R and DVD-R, and how those formats ended up merging?

I put off buying any writable DVD drive until ones that accepted both were avaliable. I could definately see this happening. Neither company wants a format war, the risks are just too great economically, its a simple prisoners dilema, hopefully they wont decide to persecute this company and sue it.

I like the bluray technology (in concept at least) better, but I expect hddvd to win because it's got hd and dvd in it's title, it has a head start, and a lot of people are going to look at sony's history with betamax and be wary. Oh, and bluray's coming out more expensive, so early adopters will continue to favor hddvd. But my hidef cameras want the 25gb discs!
I'd love to see the combo drives and players, but those are going to be really expensive if/when they first come out.

I doubt companies who support either format would want this come to the market and will try their best to stop it.
