Is YouTube Working for You?

I'm a little worried sometimes by the proliferation of websites like YouTube and Google Video because they saturate our valuable and diminishing eyeball time with useless, low-quality video clips like two bored dudes singing Backstreet Boys favorites.

WIRED has the some concerns about online videos too: "Online Video Boom Sparks Concerns"

Don't get me wrong. I think we should have an outlet to share and express video content. But there is an argument that having so many people create content for free or for peanuts makes it more difficult for professionals to invest all their time and money in creating high quality (aka High Definition) content and get paid to do it.

Yes, I know YouTube and Google Video have given many people their big break but...crap...now I feel like a sissy crying over spilled Evian.

Fine let them eat cake or have it and eat it while laying in their beds. Let's just hope people who want the high quality stuff are willing to pay for it...otherwise...we'll all be subject to more of this crap.

Smile Ahh yes...

but within the crap you may find a gem...and maybe that is the appeal. I agree, the content is horrible, even the sponsored content which I find even more annoying -- because what can be worse than crap is crap that was payed for!

However, I have no doubt that this is the beginning of a media revolution. Just as myspace has allowed millions of users to create their own web pages, youtube, revver, and now yahoo are allowing the ordinary Joe to express themselves through video which still remains a fairly young medium.

The most fascinating part of this technology, in contrast to the advent of personal cameras in early 1900's, is that it is in the public realm. These are not black & white photos that will sit in someones attic never being viewed by more than a dozen people. These are organic capsules that could die the minute they are uploaded, or be viewed by millions and live forever.

Well, I have to admit to being entertained quite frequently by youtube. There are some things you only find on youtube too, for whatever that may be worth, lol.

This media revolution is an interesting subject, not only are there more outlets for self expression than ever before, but the tools to produce such fancies are more accessible than ever...
On the one hand it’s awesome that people are able to express their whims and creativity so freely, on the other hand, the quality is definitely not always there...It’s a big question as to how this will really affect this world and society and individuals in the long run. Now anybody can have a certain level of celebrity or recognition on My Space or You Tube by simply putting up content and or marketing feverishly through these mediums. Is this driven by the need to feed the ego or motivated simply by the need to have more fun, and connect with others? My opinion: Both.

Content quality has shifted broadly and sifting through the plethora of online sources can be dauntingly time consuming, sometimes you feel like you’ve struck gold, sometimes the search is fruitless and you simply feel like you wasted a bunch of time.

Bottom line it's a catch 22, its easier than ever to create content and put it up for the world to see. At the same time the saturation of both high and low quality content will only increase over time. It’s all about balance, making choices with awareness; its great to check out what others are doing as long as you keep up with your own creativity, and or take time to manifest your own dreams or aspirations. If you are a producer or create content, whatever you're doing, make it the highest quality and strive for the best in what you do. Perhaps the low quality on some of these sites will serve to inspire those on a mission to shift standards and create high quality content.
I believe there will always be people willing to pay for quality, if you create quality, people who pride themselves in maintaining certain standards of quality will pay for it.

You Tube or not, Have Fun doing whatever your doing!
