Blu-ray mania!

Is there anyone else out there who, like me, is so excited about Blu-ray that you went out and bought a Blu-ray disc although you have no equipment to play it on yet?

Also, if anyone knows where I can get Blu-ray baseball caps, T-shirts, bumper stickers, etc., PLEASE do let me know.

Sorry dude.. I am firmly in the HD-DVD camp.. But it is always nice to have someone from the other side .. Once PS3 launches the Blu-Ray buzz should increase.. 1000 bones for a player is too much for most..

Later..

i believe blu-ray is a better format. However, at this point, hd-dvd's library of movies is much better - which makes up for its inferior format.

So far, Blu-Ray has been a disappointment as I have compare to HD-DVD and it is inferior.. Things may get better as they are moving to 50GB now as opposed to the 25GB.. Their codec is not as efficient as the HD-DVD codec therefore more bandwidth is needed to achieve the same result.

Later..

It's a shame the BD side is using greater storage space simlpy for the extra space an old codec (mpeg2) requires. This is why they are getting trounced in the first battle. HD-DVD at half the price, more titles and better quality.
BUT, this may change in round 2, a lot of BD mfg. releasing players soon (with VC-1 codecs now showing in their software) and only Gen2 Toshiba and RCA will have HD-DVD players in time for the holidays.
It's still early in the war but HD-DVD scored a standing 8-count in round 1...IMHO.

I too was going to get a Blu Ray player until I saw the picture at a couple of local stores. I was pissed! I ended up getting a great deal on a HD-DVD player from Overstock.com and am soooo happy, HD movies kick arse. Blu Ray has a bunch of bugs that I am sure will be fixed, but for $1000 I had to pass. Its too bad but saved me a bunch of money!

HD DVD vs. Blu-ray

In response to Gollums comment on the library. Apparently they have the practically the same amount of movies released (or listed to release). You can do a search on Amazon and currently HD DVD has 124 titles and Blu-ray 117. Of course, who knows what gets distibuted to stores and maybe the HD DVD are more distributed.

As far as the player, I would be hesitant to get the $1000 player if it could possibly be buggy. Samung has a player that has been marked down to $699 BD-P1000 The PS3 however, seems the best deal. $600 for a game console (the best in the world) AND a Blu-ray player. I hope the bugs are all out of this one!

after this mess I am not confident that the PS3 or the XBox 360 HD add-on will be better than standalone players. Still, my plan was to get HD-DVD because I have a fair chance of buying a PS3 the middle of next year.

I am a but surprised that a lot more titles for both formats haven't been announced for X-mas time...
