Cool Disnjey rides the Blu-ray bus

Here is an excerpt from an article which can be found at http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=109&STORY=/www/story/07-17-2006/0004398021&EDATE=.

BURBANK, Calif., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Buena Vista Home Entertainment
(BVHE) president Bob Chapek today announced that BVHE will begin releasing
titles beginning September 19, 2006 on the Blu-ray Disc format. Titles
available on that date will include Walt Disney Pictures' "Dinosaur" and
"Eight Below;" Miramax Films' "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and "The
Great Raid." These four titles mark the first wave of an ongoing release
strategy from BVHE which will support the Blu-ray format. Both "Eight
Below" and "Dinosaur" will feature Blu-Scape, exclusive high-definition
short films inspired by the movies available only on BVHE Blu-ray Discs.
These shorts are presented in 1080p and shot by renowned cinematographer
Louie Schwartzberg.

Recent rumors seem to indicate Disney is re-considering their position on this. As one poster over at AVS alluded to, Disney originally supported DivX and never wavered until suddenly and completely dropping support. I wonder whether something similar might happen here -- of course, I wouldn't expect them to drop support for BD, but rather to add support also for HD-DVD.

I love Disney, but they are a money company. I see them supporting both soon, just to get more cash flow

Exactly. Instead of really pushing for one format, I feel like they might just sit back and see how the tide turns and run with the winner.

Hopefully Disney will reconsider.. Blu-Ray quality is NOT there and the format is already losing.. The only reason these studios are supporting Blu-Ray is the PS3.. Without the PS3, Blu-ray is dead.. HD-DVD on the other hand has done very well prior to the release of the 360 HD-DVD player and now that the 360 HD-DVD player is here, HD-DVD will skyrocket..

Later..

I kinda hope that Ps3 does decent this generation. Competition for the 360 means more good games for us. I don't want to see them totally flop.
