There is no other time of the year that gets me more excited than the fall lineup of sports in HD. The Baseball playoffs, NFL is in full swing, College Football is getting towards crunch time and some of the “other” sports are beginning which will give us something to do when we aren’t watching the good stuff. In the first installment of the weekend report you will find a list of the sporting events you can find in HDTV around the country. Listed by day and categorized by sport this should give you plenty of excuses not to leave your house this weekend……unless you have to take the trash out or if you are checking to see if we are under a nuclear attack. 4:30pm EST: Oakland A’s @ Detroit Tigers (Game 3 ALCS) FOX in 720P
Big game 3 tonight with the A’s trying to rebound after their dismal playoff performance in the first two games. Frank Thomas was an 1/8th of an inch from hitting a slam in Game 2 to win it but unfortunately it just didn’t have the distance…….pivotal game 3 is a must watch.

8:00pm EST: St. Louis Cardinals @ New York Mets (Game 2 NLCS) FOX in 720P
Game 2 is the headlining game today for Baseball and it can’t be understated how big game 2 is in the MLB postseason. If the Cardinals can’t get their bats going its bye bye birdies……All this and we get to see the 85 year old Julio Franco in HD (some things do not need HD)

College Football
8:00pm EST: Pittsburgh @ UCF ESPN HD in 720P
Unless you were or are a student of these two schools there is no reason to watch this game over the baseball playoffs. If you do choose watch it, you do get a chance to look at former NFL coach Dave Wannstedt and his infamous porn mustache.

If you are smart and if you have the cash, you already have the NFL Sunday Ticket from Direct TV. I may try and do a review on this package because it’s a thing of beauty. It is by no means the perfect setup but it’s all a guy could ask for on a Sunday. The RedZone channel alone is beyond comprehension.
