HD Sports Report
October 26th – 30th, 2006

GIVEAWAY GIVEAWAY GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!
All you have to do is reply to this post and have a pulse to qualify…..also live in the contiguous 48 states and be at least 18 years old.
Since a grand total of 1 whopping HiDeffer replied last week for the Blitz Game and Martha Stewart DVD package we decided to up things a bit and give away the “Pittsburgh Steelers Road to Super Bowl XL DVD”. This DVD includes 4 complete games from the 2005 playoffs (including the SuperBowl) but unfortunately this DVD box set fails to return any lost bets on the game. Entries will be accepted until 12:00am 10/31.

Wow what a great weekend of sports last weekend. If you missed the Notre Dame/UCLA game then I have to ask that you watch an extra hour of pre-season basketball as your punishment. Another win from the cardiac kids and they are barely keeping hope alive for a national championship in South Bend. I would say that if you aren’t interested in Baseball (communist!) and NFL isn’t your thing (Sally) then take up a vested interest in college football for the next 2 months cause its going to be a wild ride. In almost every region of the country you can find a team to latch onto so get to it nation, or just go ahead and register for Oprah’s book club.

As always this list of HD Sports Programming is shown by day and categorized by sport but…Please check your local listings for channels and availability.
Games and Times are listed in RED.....Games and Times in BLUE are do not miss.

Thursday 10/26/06
MLB
8:00pm EST: Detroit Tigers @ St. Louis Cardinals (World Series Game 4) FOX in 720P
Rain, Rain go away. Wednesday’s scheduled game 4 was pushed out to Thursday but storm clouds are brewing over Mizzou so we may not see a game until Friday or possibly this weekend. You know what that means…yep World Series in November again. I am hoping they get things back on schedule but I can tell you the big reason they waited so long on Wednesday night before canceling the game was because they knew its not likely that Thursday will be dry either. My concerns before this World Series matchup were entirely correct as the Tigers have shown up with an autistic look on their face while the Cardinals have come ready to play. The Tigers have exactly one game to get this ship righted or there is no way they recover as far as I am concerned. Tigers win game 4 and I have a sneaky feeling we see a game 7 on Monday. WHOO HOO!

NBA
10:00pm EST: Denver Nuggets @ L.A. Lakers TNT-HD in 1080i
Cool the jets here this is only preseason. Kobe is most likely not going to play so we will have to wait for his regular season matchup against Carmelo and the rest of the Denver Creamy Nougats.

College Football
7:30pm EST: Clemson Tigers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies ESPNHD in 720P
Clemson RB James Davis is listed as “probable” so my interest in this game is also “probable”.

NHL
7:00pm EST: Montreal Canadiens vs. Boston Bruins (Regional) NESN in 1080i
7:30pm EST: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (Regional) Sun Sports in 720p
7:30pm EST: Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Carolina Predators (Regional) FSN S in 720p
8:00pm EST: San Jose Sharks vs. Nashville Predators HDNet in 1080i

NHL game of the night in HD is San Jose @ Nashville with two really fun players to watch in Joe Thornton (SJ) and Jonathan Cheechoo (SJ). Trust me on this game if you are a hockey fan…have I let you down yet???

10:00pm EST: Edmonton Oilers vs. Phoenix Coyotes (Regional) FSN AZ in 720p
I just saw a replay of a guy named Steve Smith shooting an own goal in the 3rd period of Game 7 in the 1986 Stanley Cup finals with the score tied 2-2. That pretty much shot down the Oilers hopes of 3peating as champions. How the heck have I never seen this play? How pissed do you think Gretzky was? Wow this one is right up there with Buckner in Boston in ’86 and Dusty Baker killing my World Series when he managed the SF Giants in the ’02 World Series. 1986 must have been a weird year for bonehead plays to ruin championship hopes.

Friday 10/27/06
MLB
8:00pm EST: Detroit Tigers @ St. Louis Cardinals (World Series Game 5) FOX in 720P
I will either be watching World Series baseball or helping the good folks of St. Louis build an Ark and evacuating their animals 2 by 2. With no baseball I don’t want you to look at the list of events below……Viewer Discretion is Strongly Advised.

College Football
8:00pm EST: UTEP Miners vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane ESPNHD in 720P
ugghhh

NHL
7:00pm EST: L.A. Kings vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (Regional) FSN O in 720p
8:30pm EST: Detroit Red Wings vs. Dallas Stars (Regional) FSN SW in 720p

ugghhh

NBA
8:30pm EST: Toronto Raptors @ Chicago Bulls (Regional) CSN in 1080i
ugghhh some more

Canadian Football
9:00pm EST: Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Edmonton Eskimos WorldsportHD in 1080i
OK I just mentally vomited all over myself……thats it, we need to bring back domes over baseball stadiums.

Saturday 10/28/06
MLB
7:30pm EST: St. Louis Cardinals @ Detroit Tigers (World Series Game 6) FOX in 720P

College Football
12:00pm EST: Northwestern Wildcats vs. Michigan Wolverines ESPNHD in 720p
12:00pm EST: Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Wisconsin Badgers ESPN2HD in 720p
12:00pm EST: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Misssouri Tigers (Regional) ABC in 720p
3:30pm EST: Georgia Bulldogs vs. Florida Gators CBS in 1080i

3:30pm EST: Miami Hurricanes vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (Regional) ABC in 720p
Anyone else really looking forward to this game like I am???? Good cause it’s my game of the week.
After suspending 12 players last week, Miami beat Duke (20-15!!!!!) so I am sure they hope to have things back on track for this game. If you ask me, and I’m sure you are, I say take GT and lay whatever points Vegas is making you lay down (cough -5.5) and take it to the bank.
Miami loses by at least 7.

7:00pm EST: Florida St. Seminoles vs. Maryland Terrapin ESPN2HD in 720p
7:45pm EST: Tennessee Volunteers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks ESPNHD in 720p

NHL
7:00pm EST: Ottawa Senators vs. Boston Bruins (Regional) NESN in 1080i
7:00pm EST: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers HDNet 1080i
8:30pm EST: Anaheim Mighty Ducks vs. Chicago Blackhawks (Regional) CSN in 1080i

El Futbol Non-Americano
1:58pm EST: FutbolBarcelona vs. Recreativo WorldsportHD in 1080i

Auto Racing
10:30pm EST: NHRA Qualifying ESPN2HD in 720p

Sunday 10/29/06
NFL
1:00pm EST: San Francisco 49ers vs. Chicago Bears FOX in 720p
“……and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to impersonate Professional Football Teams”
1:00pm EST: Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals FOX in 720p
If the Michael Vick from last week shows up then we will have a great game in Ohio. I am 50/50 on this cause Ron Mexico has been up and down during his whole career. It’s definitely worth a watch so check this one out.

1:00pm EST: Arizona Cardinals vs. Green Bay Packers FOX in 720p
1:00pm EST: Seattle Seahawks vs. Kansas City Chiefs FOX in 720p
1:00pm EST: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Giants FOX in 720p

1:00pm EST: Baltimore Ravens vs. New Orleans Saints CBS in 1080i
Second game of the week has the surprising Saints against the agonizing to watch Baltimore Ravens. I have a feeling people are not paying attention to the Saints D which should hold McNair in check for most of the game. If the Saints win and hang somewhere around 20points on the Ravens D then they are officially legitimate contenders and will make the playoffs.

1:00pm EST: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Philadelphia Eagles CBS in 1080i
4:00pm EST: St. Louis Rams vs. San Diego Chargers FOX in 720p
4:15pm EST: Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos CBS in 1080i
8:15pm EST: Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers NBC in 1080i

The Cowboys are pathetic…and a Rookie QB going up against the Panthers D. Not sure why people are so stoked on this game but what else are you going to do up until the Flavor of Love reunion show. (eagerly anticipating this mess of human existence BTW)

MLB
7:30pm EST: St. Louis Cardinals @ Detroit Tigers (World Series Game 6) FOX in 720P

College Football
8:00pm EST: Connecticut Huskies vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights ESPNHD in 720p

AUTO RACING
2:30pm EST: NASCAR Nextel Cup Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 from Atlanta Motor Speedway NBC in 1080i
8:00pm EST: NHRA Finals ESPN2HD in 720p

MLS (Major League Soccer)
4:00pm EST: Conference Semi-Final #2 - Club Deportivo Chivas USA @ Houston Dynamo HDNET in 1080i

Monday 10/30/06
NFL (Monday Night Football)
8:30pm EST: New England Patriots @ Minnesota Vikings ESPNHD in 720P
At first glance this has all the interest of a crusty, dried up sponge but this may be a classic game in the making. I see two evenly matched teams here playing in a dome on Monday night football. No weather elements to favor the Patriots, Chester Taylor running well means the Vikings have a legit shot here to take a big home win.

MLB
7:30pm EST: St. Louis Cardinals @ Detroit Tigers (World Series Game 7) FOX in 720P

NHL
8:00pm EST: Minnesota Wild vs. Colorado Avalanche (Regional) Altitude in 1080i
7:00pm EST: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Philadelphia Flyers Versus / INHD in 1080i
10:30pm EST: N.Y. Rangers vs. L.A. Kings (Regional) FSN W in 720p
