HD Sports Report (Numero Cinco)

HD Sports Report
November 9th – 13th, 2006

Alright so my prognostication skills are not what they used to be but hey I can’t account for the Grossman effect. Oh well! This week there is a full lineup of good games and events in HD and with the weather changing around the country, this list should help to entertain. Next week we will have the Pre-ThanksGiving Giveaway special with two primo HD-DVD movies up for grabs so check back for more information. OK a tiny hint, there is one sports movie and one war movie….one involves a Gopher and the other has this guy from “Mail Call”. Should be great to watch with the fam after you get fat and lazy. Til then Sports Fans, enjoy the weekend.

As always this list of HD Sports Programming is shown by day and categorized by sport but…Please check your local listings for channels and availability.
Games and Times are listed in RED.....Games and Times in BLUE are do not miss.

Thursday 11/9/06
NBA
8:00pm EST: Chicago Bulls vs. Cleveland Cavaliers TNT-HD in 1080i
Two up and coming teams going at it with Lebron and Mr. Benny Wallace as the headliners. This one will be good if we can convince Lebron not to walk off the court towards the end.

10:30pm EST: Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns TNT-HD in 1080i
WOW the Mavericks are Ofer…big fat zilch in their first set of games. It's really early in the season but this is not a great way to start if you are the defending Western Conference champions. At the beginning of the year Mark Cuban said he would tone it down and play nice with "The Association" and Mr. Stern. Hey Mark how about you start yelling again and light a fire under your team’s ass before they end up like the Knicks?
I would like to think they can rebound and get their first win but not in Phoenix…Good thing they get Portland on the 12th.

College Football
7:30pm EST: Louisville Cardinals vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights ESPNHD in 720P
Oh yeah the team of destiny! Not only is this completely abnormal but this is one of the best things to happen in college football in a long time. Rutgers is THE Cinderella story this season with a great backfield of Brian Leonard and Ray Rice plus a killer defense to boot. I was not impressed AT ALL with Louisville last week even though it was in the rain, so I say its time for Rutgers to show the nation what they are made of and leap frog some contenders in the rankings. A BCS ranking of 15 is not what they deserve and if they beat the #3 team in the country Thursday night, I say they are a deserving top 10 team ahead of Cal. (pains me cause I love Cal but Rutgers is pretty darn good). As I have said before here GO RUTGERS!

NHL
7:00pm EST: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers (Regional) FSN FL in 720p
7:00pm EST: N.Y. Islanders vs. Philadelphia Flyers (Regional) CSN in 1080i
7:00pm EST: N.Y. Islanders vs. Philadelphia Flyers HDNet in 1080i
8:00pm EST: St. Louis Blues vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (Regional) FSN O in 720p
10:00pm EST: N.Y. Rangers vs. San Jose Sharks (Regional) FSN AZ in 720P

Sharks look tough…..I have been waiting for them to lose and be cellar dwellers so I can trade them for a basketball franchise but they are not going anywhere anytime soon. If you are not from the San Jose area you have no idea how crazy people are for hockey around here. This will be a very dangerous team in the playoffs.

Friday 11/10/06
College Football
8:00pm EST: UTEP Miners vs. UAB Blazers ESPNHD in 720P
No need to waste your hard earned HD cash on this unless you have money on the game. In that case call this number….. (800)522-4700 cause you have a gambling problem.

NHL
7:30pm EST: Nashville Predators vs. Detroit Red Wings (Regional) FSND in 720P
8:30pm EST: St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks (Regional) CSN in 1080i

NBA
7:00pm EST: Denver Nuggets vs. Philadelphia 76ers (Regional) CSN in 1080i
7:00pm EST: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Washington Wizards (Regional) CSN in 1080i

Tracking Milwaukee…..2 wins 3 losses with their two wins against Detroit and Sacramento. Giving up 102 per game and scoring 95. uggghhh!

8:00pm EST: Miami Heat vs. N.J. Nets ESPNHD in 720p
8:00pm EST: Miami Heat vs. N.J. Nets (Regional YES in 1080i
10:30pm EST: Detroit Pistons vs. L.A. Lakers (Regional) FSN W in 720p

10:30pm EST: Detroit Pistons vs. L.A. Lakers ESPNHD in 720p
To Kobe or not to Kobe? Lakers are playing great with Lamar Odom and a hand full of newbs. Let’s see how long they keep this intact with Kobe scoring 13 PPG and Lamar posting 25/30 night. I say we get to mid December before we see trouble.

Saturday 11/11/06

Boxing
10:00pm EST: Vladmir Klitschko vs Calvin Brock HBO in 1080i
This is a big fight and let me count the ways. First off all 4, count them 4 heavyweight titles are currently being held by 4 different Russian beasts. I blame Lennox Lewis for this mess after he and his tea drinking supporters worked over every American Heavyweight in contention. From what I heard they will have all 4 Russian fighters in a tournament style boxing event to unify all 4 belts and finally crown a complete champion. Calvin is not going to let this happen. #1 his name is “The Boxing Banker”. Not only does he know how to handle his money he is going to tax that ass Mr. Klitschko. #2 If anyone who is reading this has played Fight Night Round 3 the video game you know exactly how lethal his power shots are. Before I played this game I figured Calvin Brock was a generic name for Tyson, figuring they couldn’t use his real name. I was fooled into thinking he was Tyson because he was so dominant and even though it’s a video game, I am ready to see him take his #3 UNDEFEATED RECORD up for a title shot. Tune in, you won’t be disappointed.

College Football
12:00pm EST: Cincinnati Bearcats vs. West Virginia Mountaineers ESPN2HD in 720p
12:00pm EST: Wisconsin Badgers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes ESPNHD in 720p
3:30pm EST: Michigan Wolverines vs. Indiana Hoosiers ESPNHD in 720P
3:30pm EST: Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Northwestern Wildcats ABC (720p)
3:30pm EST: South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Florida Gators CBS in 1080i
7:00pm EST: Tennessee Volunteers vs. Arkansas Razorbacks ESPN2HD in 720P

7:45pm EST: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers ESPNHD in 720p
Probably the only game of the weekend that generates serious interest. We have been spoiled lately but good news Michigan v Ohio State is right around the corner.

8:00pm EST: Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Florida St. Seminoles ABC in 720P
8:00pm EST: Texas Longhorns vs. Kansas St. Wildcats ABC in 720P
10:00pm EST: Oregon Ducks vs. USC Trojans FSN-HD

NHL

7:00pm EST: N.Y. Rangers vs. Washington Capitals (Regional) CSN in 1080i
7:00pm EST: Buffalo Sabres vs. Philadelphia Flyers (Regional) CSN in 1080i
9:00pm EST: San Jose Sharks vs. Phoenix Coyotes HDNet in 1080i

NBA
8:00pm EST: Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls NBA/INHD in 1080i
8:00pm EST: Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls (Local) WGN in 1080i

It’s funny, every year I hear some sports analyst saying how good the Pacers are and how much potential they have and you know what happens….they end up sucking or shooting themselves in the foot. Could be due to injuries but until they reach the Finals again I am not going to allow them prime air time on SportsCenter. But hey what do I know….This is coming from the same guy who thinks the Warriors have a shot each year. Har Har Friggin Har.

10:30pm EST: Golden State Warriors vs. Detroit Pistons (Regional) FSN D in 720p
Yeah these guys!

Auto Racing
3:30pm EST: NASCAR Busch Series Arizona Travel 200 from Phoenix International Speedway TNT-HD in 1080i
10:00pm EST: NHRA Qualifying ESPN2HD in 720p

Sunday 11/12/06
NFL
1:00pm EST: San Diego Chargers vs. Cincinnati Bengals CBS in 1080i
1:00pm EST: Buffalo Bills vs. Indianapolis Colts CBS in 1080i
1:00pm EST: N.Y. Jets vs. New England Patriots CBS in 1080i
1:00pm EST: San Francisco 49ers vs. Detroit Lions FOX in 720p
1:00pm EST: Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings FOX in 720p
1:00pm EST: Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles FOX in 720p
1:00pm EST: St. Louis Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks FOX in 720p
4:00pm EST: Dallas Cowboys vs. Arizona Cardinals FOX in 720P
4:00pm EST: New Orleans Saints vs. Pittsburgh Steelers FOX in 720P

8:15pm EST: Chicago Bears vs. N.Y. Giants NBC in 1080i
DA BEARS! Guys what did you do to me last week? Things were mapped out so nice but you blew it. I was actually embarrassed for them last Sunday and had to turn the channel cause it was so painful. This is a dangerous game for the Bears cause this could start a nasty slide for them should they lose. I have a bad feeling the Giants are going to exploit the Bears corners (as Plaxico Burress said) and that is not good. If the Giants find a way to get out to a lead that will put some pressure on Grossman which means, game over. This will be a pretty good game as long as the Bears can keep the ball to themselves.
*BTW Can we start a national campaign to remove Pink from the start of Sunday Night Football? My god she is horrible and that song is even worse. Let Hank Williams Jr. do both nights….really what would it hurt?

NBA
3:00pm EST: New Orleans Hornets vs. L.A. Clippers INHD in 1080i
8:00pm EST: Houston Rockets vs. Miami Heat Sun Sports (Regional) & ESPNHD in 720P
9:00pm EST: Toronto Raptors vs. Sacramento Kings (Regional) CSN in 1080i
9:30pm EST: L.A. Lakers vs. Memphis Grizzlies (Regional) FSN S in 720p

AUTO RACING
3:00pm EST: NASCAR Nextel Cup Checker Auto Parts 500 from Phoenix International Raceway NBC in 1080i
The way Tony Stewart demolished the field last week I say he is a big favorite to take the checker here too. Part of me is waiting for him to miss a run on the fence and fall on his car. How do you climb an 18ft fence with that big ass helmet on your head? Better man than I.

7:00pm EST: NHRA Finals ESPN2HD in 720P

NHL
7:00pm EST: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (Regional) FSN O in 720P

El Futbol Non-Americano
7:30pm EST: FutbolBarcelona vs. Zaragoza WorldsportHD in 1080i

Canadian Football
CFLPlayoffs - Division Championship
3:00pm EST: TBD WorldsportHD in 1080i
4:00pm EST: Saskatchewan Rough Riders vs. BC Lions WorldsportHD in 1080i

Monday 10/13/06
NFL (Monday Night Football)
8:30pm EST: Tampa Bay Buccanneers vs. Carolina Panthers ESPNHD in 720p
This game is only interesting if you live in Tampa Bay or in the Carolinas or if you are really bored. But the commercials are right……you just can’t stay away from Monday Night Football.

NBA
7:00pm EST: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. N.Y. Knicks NBA/INHD in 1080i
7:30pm EST: Seattle Supersonics vs. N.J. Nets (Regional) YES in 1080i

Yeah that is a sweet shot......just wonder what that felt like to lay out Roy Williams. Nice forarm shiver to the chest will get the defense pumped up.
