UFC 65 Bad Intentions

UFC 65 Bad Intentions
(whats with the lame names for these fights now?)

Matt Hughes 5.9 169lbs Record 41-4-0 VS. Georges St. Pierre 5.10 170lbs Record 12-1-0

I think I am the one of the few Georges fans in the world and I have watched him since his first UFC fight. The guy is a freak and has so many ways to beat you that its almost impossible for him to lose Saturday night. In my opinion the first time these two fought it was a bit of a fluke as Matt caught GSP slippin. The good news is GSP is a much better fighter now and has experience against tougher opponents. Matt is incredibly strong and if he gets you in a hold or has you on your back its pretty much over. BUT GSP has the best take down defense of anyone in the game and is very strong himself. Overall I say this fight goes into the 4th round with a submission by GSP. (GSP winner = rear naked choke 4th)

Tim Sylvia 6.8 265lbs Record 24-2-0 VS. Jeff Monson 5.9 240lbs Record 24-5-0

Tim Sylvia is boring and that is pretty much all I can say about this Oger. I hate slow unathletic fighters because its as if the fight is in slow motion. Sylvia's fight with Arlovski was horrible and tedious as they walked around the ring trading only jabs and minimal power punches. Tim will not be able to get away with this against Monson. Jeff Monson can be described with one word....HUGE! If there was a poster child for steroids it would appear Jeff Monson is lined up for his photo shoot. I could be wrong but he just doesnt look naturally strong like Hughes or some other fighters I have seen. Sylvia has to say on his feet and press with leg kicks and jabs for him to keep Monson away or Monson will pound his face into the mat with repeated hammer fists. Tim is almost a foot taller and has a 25 pound weight advantage and I just cant see Jeff making that up so its Tim Sylvia in a knockout in the 3rd. (Sylvia winner = Knockout Ref stoppage 3rd round)

Brandon Vera 6.2 223lbs Record 7-0-0 VS. Frank Mir 6.1 240lbs Record 9-2-0

This is the only other fight on the card worth anticipating but dont get me wrong the undercard fights have typically been the best of the night in most recent PPV events. Brandon Vera is coming up through the ranks very fast and is a serious contender at the 205 Heavyweight Belt. If he runs through Frank Mir then this will catapult him into the limelight in the UFC and offer a legitimate challenger to Tim Sylvia. I have never been really impressed with Frank Mir and this was again the case when he was knocked out by Marcio Cruz 4:10 into the first round. ("The Truth" Brandon Vera winner = Knockout 2nd round)

Alessio Sakara 6.1 205lbs Record 14-4-0 VS. Drew McFedries 6.0 205lbs Record 4-1-0

Joe Stevenson 5.7 155lbs Record 30-7-0 VS. Dokonjonosuke Mishima 5.7 155lbs Record17-4-2

Nick Diaz 6.0 170lbs Record 14-6-0 VS. Gleison Tibau 5.10 170 23-2-0

Antoni Hardonk 6.4 245lbs Record 4-2-0 VS. Sherman Pendergarst 6.1 240lbs Record 8-3-0

Jake O'Brien 6.3 230lbs Record 8-0-0 VS. Josh Schockman 6.4 236lbs Record 7-0-0

James Irvin 6.2 205lbs Record 11-3-0 VS. Hector Ramirez 6.0 205lbs Record 6-1-1

This will be a great night of UFC fighting and at $39.95 its not a bad deal if you can split it with a few friends and party on a Saturday night. Invite the group over and watch some good old fashion beat downs on the Tube. Just too bad its still not in HD......yet!

GSP rocks the block and we have a new champion. 3 for 3 last night......damn i should have started gamblin again. Pretty good fights last night EXCEPT for the usual Sylvia borefest. That guy is going to get his ass beat by Brandon Vera, not sure why he would throw out the challenge like that after his snoozer against Jeff Monson.

GSP - GSP - GSP!
