HD Sports Report #8

HD Sports Report
December 1st – December 4th, 2006

For some reason the report snuck up on me this week and I may know why. Humans are not supposed to have this much stimulation by way of an entertainment system. Let me explain. As you have seen here on HiDef.com there are a ton, and I mean a ton of video games being released right before Christmas. This creates a major problem for anyone with an Xbox 360 and fully functional arms. I am now onto Rainbow Six Las Vegas and two more games are coming my way via Gamefly. This is out of control and yesterday I looked up and the Giants were thinking of trading for Manny Ramirez. WTF? I was slacking over the last month but not anymore. I will train harder (NBA League Pass), read more sports columns and only play sports games from here on out. Some quick hits before we get to the report:

The Giants should absolutely NOT trade for Manny Ramirez based on their previous experience with malcontents in the past. Did anyone learn the lesson from Barry Bonds that one player can kill a franchise? So many other free agents out there and none will come to the Giants. Yeah, can I have Milton Bradley packaged with this deal? How about Kenny Rogers?

I don’t care about pre-season college basketball. It’s pointless to everyone except the annual top 25 teams trying to get a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Leave the NY Giants alone……stop pestering them into fighting amongst themselves and let them play football. It’s not interesting and just stupid.

Russell Baze is about to set the all time win record for a jockey this weekend but unfortunately it’s like Crash Davis hitting the most homeruns in the minor leagues. Noone will pay attention but a few will notice how impressive it is to win 9,531 races on an extremely fast animal against other extremely fast animals. Count me among the few.

Justin Gatlin is trying out for the Tennessee Titans after a ban from track competitions. What does this say about the NFL drug testing policy?

The Chicago Cubs are now the best team in the National League and will assume the role of the NY Mets this offseason. That means they will win over 90 games, Lou Pinella will set the Major League record for manager ejections and they will lose in the first round of the playoffs next year.

On to the report…………………
As always this list of HD Sports Programming is shown by day and categorized by sport but…Please check your local listings for channels and availability.
Games and Times are listed in RED.....Games and Times in BLUE are do not miss.

Friday 12/1/06
NCAA Football
8:00pm EST: Conference USA Championship Game - Southern Miss Golden Eagles vs. Houston Cougars ESPN2HD in 720p
Wow this is one of the weakest HD nights in a while. With Dirk on the bench for the Mavericks it looks like the College game gets top billing for Friday night by the slimmest of margins.

NBA
7:00pm EST: Charlotte Bobcats vs. Washington Wizards (Regional) CSN in 1080i
7:30pm EST: Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (Regional) FSN Ohio in 720p
8:30pm EST: Sacramento Kings vs. Dallas Mavericks ESPNHD in 720p

Saturday 12/2/06
NBA
7:00pm EST: Philadelphia 76ers vs. N.J. Nets NBA/INHD in 1080i
7:30pm EST: Philadelphia 76ers vs. N.J. Nets (Regional) YES in 1080i

8:00pm EST: Washington Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls (Local) WGN in 1080i

OK I have one question.....what the hell does it matter that Ben Wallace wears a headband during games? Did anyone question Cliff Robinson during his entire career? Jeese these leagues have become nazi regimes.

10:00pm EST: Indiana Pacers vs. Denver Nuggets (Regional) Altitude in 1080i
10:30pm EST: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Golden State Warriors (Regional) FSN BA in 1080i
10:30pm EST: L.A. Lakers vs. L.A. Clippers (Local) KTLA in 1080i

NCAA Football
12:00pm EST: Connecticut Huskies vs. Louisville Cardinals ESPNHD in 720p
1:00pm EST: ACC Championship Game - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs.Wake Forest Demon Deacons ABC in 720p

3:00pm EST: Stanford Cardinal vs. California Golden Bears FSN-HD
Cal is 28 point favorites in this game but this game is close 9 times out of ten so 28 points for any Cal team seems a bit steep to me. Although this could be the 1 time out of ten someone gets run out of the building. Cal 45 Stanford 13

4:00pm EST: Div I Football Playoffs - Montana St. vs. Appalachian St. ESPN2HD in 720p
4:30pm EST: UCLA Bruins vs. USC Trojans ABC in 720p
There is nothing the Bruins would like more than to end the national championship hopes of their South Central LA rivals. UCLA will probably hang close in the first half like most teams do with USC but USC just has better athletes. USC should take this one and run away by the end of the 3rd quarter but there is potential for a nail biter.

6:00pm EST: SEC Championship Game - Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Florida Gators CBS in 1080i
I love how these games are staggered like this.....It's a betting mans dream to schedule games like this. Or a nightmare if you are losing your ass. Florida is on a mission right now and has to put a serious beatdown on the Razorbacks to even sniff a championship title shot.

7:45pm EST: Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. West Virginia Mountaineers ESPNHD in 720p
I have a scarlet tear running down my face. This game has much less meaning now that Rutgers lost to a pathetic Cincy team. This game should be good but not as good as it should have been. Sigh.

8:00pm EST: Big 12 Championship Game - Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Oklahoma Sooners ABC in 720p

NHL
7:00pm EST: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Boston Bruins (Regional)NESN in 1080i
7:00pm EST: Buffalo Sabres vs. Washington Capitals (Regional)CSN in 1080i
7:00pm EST: San Jose Sharks vs. Detroit Red Wings HDNet in 1080i
7:30pm EST: N.J. Devils vs. Philadelphia Flyers (Regional) CSN in 1080i

Boxing
9:00pm EST: Miguel Cotto vs. Carlos Quintana Showtime in 1080i
9:45pm EST: Winky Wright vs. Ike Quartey HBO in 1080i
Two fights on at almost the same time Sat night so I am obviously going with the Wright/Quartey fight. Winky has a big chance to get another shot at Jermain Taylor but come on Winky you have to beat Ike first. This is not going to be easy and Winky should not be overlooking the fighter in front of him. This happens all too often in sports and is normally called the "Trap Game". This fight is going to be a test of stamina but Winky is just too good for Ike and will inevitably get his shot at the title with Taylor very soon. Gotta watch this one folks.

Monday12/4/06
NFL
8:30pm EST: Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles ESPNHD in 720p
The way the Eagles defense laid down last week shows you exactly where they are headed the rest of the season without McNabb. The city of brotherly love must now endure a winter of what ifs for their baseball and football teams. Until next year, or the year after, or the year after that.

NHL
7:00pm EST: Boston Bruins vs. Montreal Canadiens Versus / INHD in 1080i
