    HiDef Theaters

NOW PLAYING : DINOSAUR at El Capitan in HiDef!

All right, as we all know HD theaters are springing up everywhere. George Lucas has released Episode I in various High Definition theaters and with Epsiode II to be shot almost entirely on HiDef - Expect to see many more Big Screens in High Definition.

Disney has been using HiDef since Toy Story and it appears they might be looking to turn more of thier movies towards HiDef. As one of our readers suggested, Disney employee's interview people who exit thier El Capitan theater with cameras rolling, hoping to catch movie goer's reactions to the Digital Projection.

Other studios are also intent on HiDef. Miramax released The Ideal Husband and Shakespeare in Love in the HiDef Format only a couple of months after Lucas unleashed Episode I.

    HD Theaters of note:

  • Hollywood, CA: Disney El Capitan
  • Irvine, CA: Edwards Spectrum
  • Burbank, CA: AMC NORTH 6 Media Center
  • San Francisco, CA: AMC 1000 Van Ness
  • Orlando, FL: AMC Pleasure Island 24
  • Plano, TX: Cinemark at Legacy

In Toy Story 2, like the Tarzan movie, the RGB computer files were converted to HiDef by using software which rendered each frame out in a 24 frames progressive HiDef Digital format.

Yes, we are sure of this - no interlacing. In fact we saw the projector and managed a few words with the projectionist who supported the format.

Other Theaters - Of which you might be able to see "Bicentenial Man" "Mission to Mars" and/or "Dinosaur" at:

  • Phoenix, AZ: Cinemark at Valley View
  • Toronto, Canada: Famous Players
  • Vancouver, Canada: Paramount
  • Chicago, IL: AMC Studio 24
  • Kansas City, KS: Famous Players Riverport
  • Cleveland, OH: AMC South Barrington 30
