Perplexed new owner of Westinghouse LVM-42w2

Greetings,

I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the Westinghouse LVM-42w2 monitor I just bought!

The Westinghouse website clearly states that this monitor supports 1080p through the HDMI port (URL is http://www.westinghousedigital.com/p...-monitor.aspx). Yet, on page 20 of the owner's manual, it says that HDMI supports up to 720/1080i. The owner's manual does state that the DVI ports both support up to 1080p.

I do not yet own a Blu-ray player to test the HDMI port's ability (or inability) to accept a 1080p signal. So, should I believe the website or the owner's manual? And, if the HDMI port in fact does NOT support 1080p, will I be able to get full 1080p through the DVI port by using an HDMI to DVI adapter or cable to connect a Blu-ray player?

**UPDATE** Just a few minutes after I posted this message, I found the following text on the web page I mentioned above.

Quote:
Please note that the User Manual incorrectly states (on page 20) that the LVM 42w2 has the ability to ONLY reproduce 1080i on HDMI. This is a misprint; this model allows HDMI input to reproduce 1080p and 1080i quality video. We regret the error.
I have some other questions about this monitor, in case someone has the time and knowledge to address them:

When viewing a 1080i signal, if I go to the monitor's menu and ask what resolution I'm in, it tells me 1920 x 540. The picture quality definitely LOOKS like 1080, but why is the monitor reporting 540?

Also, I've noticed that when watching cable TV (I have Comcast and I noticed this on channels like Discovery HD), a very thin vertical white line appears on the extreme left side of the image WHILE the channel's logo is displayed on the lower right-hand corner of the screen. When the channel chooses to remove their logo, this thin white line disappears along with the logo. Might this be a limitation of the component video input (YPbPr)? Should I spend the $80-$100 to connect my cable box to the TV set via a DVI cable instead of the component video cables?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated!

I had many of the same questions- especially after reading the manual that stated that the only true source of 1080p was the computer DVI port (not the dvi hdcp- which could cause problems as that is the port that many cable/satellite providers use). I was also disappointed about the hdmi comment (no 1080p) but was relieved to read the update on the westinghouse website. I was confused, because when I read all of the reviews, they all stated that 1080p could be produced through ALL of the ports. I guess the reviewers tests revealed what westinghouse didn't know- or for some stupid reason didn't want to advertise. I too wondered about the 1920x540 display with 1080i. I believe this is normal and is actually how 1080i is displayed. I was concerned at first because I had read some low end models would use 540 and over scan it twice to produce 1080i. If what I read is correct, this set does not do this and instead produces true 1080i/p. All in all I think this is a great set. I got it for 1599 with a 2 year warranty. None of the issues that others have talked about i.e. banding, dead pixels etc..

The white line you see is also present on the Comcast signal using HDMI (phase 3 box has HDMI) to DVI.. I believe this a bi-product of the broadcast signal.. I will investigate more and let you know..

Later..

Alra111,

Did you ever figure out the "white line" thing? I'm having the same issue with the same TV. I'm on Time Warner Cable with an SA8300HD DVR box, and running 1.00 firmware.
