Another Big A** HD Laptop...Yippee!

BusinessWire.com announces yet another monstrosity of a laptop that tries to be a home theater - the 20-inch wide-screen ACER:

Quote:
Ideal for mainstream and full-feature multimedia segments, the Aspire 9800 is perfect for the savvy home user, student or SOHO professional, who desire a High Definition (HD) solution - a PC and television in one - for intensive multitasking and entertainment enjoyment. The HD video and picture quality for advanced graphic design and realistic visuals is perfect for gaming and HD movie presentation. With a digital and analog hybrid TV-tuner and remote, the Aspire 9800 delivers dedicated performance for watching traditional TV, recording TV shows and capturing video, along with HD-DVD technology and a host of other entertainment options.
Does it also do windows? Read and find out more.

Yes it's cool but if you want something that does everything (and won't realistically be taking it with you) just commit to a desktop with hordes of space for all your sh*t.

In case you hedn't noticed the industry is trying to push for "Mobile Desktops"
Classic example is the one from Dell that looks like a briefcase

I wouldn't say they're trying to push for mobile desktops. They're trying to sell a product, just as they're tring to sell every other type of computer. There's a market out there. I know several people with desktop replacements, and several people who hate the idea of a huge ass laptop.
BTW, if you have a latop with a dvi connector, you can get a dvi to hdmi cable for ~$20 (or you can find a connector for ~$10 and use your own hdmi cable).

But this sort off "laptop" can't be thought off in the same light as a standard laptop.
I have a friend that has the Dell Briefcase and he thinks it's a really compact desktop.
Of course, it's all up to the user and it's always good to have options!
