Ok, found this on another forum and it worked for me immediately after trying it. I haven't played yet but it's running now at least!

SOLUTION:

*delete the battlefield 2142 folder in my documents*

i emailed the technical support people and they told me that the bf2142 folder in my documents get corrupted over time.

it worked for me, good luck! "
