Immortality may have its ups and downs, but packaged into a blockbuster international film and television franchise, it's a pretty attractive concept. And when the face of immortality is the face of actor Adrian Paul, well, the whole thing is proving to be downright irresistible. Paul, who starred as Duncan MacLeod in six seasons of "Highlander: The Series," now moves to the feature film version, starring in "Highlander: Endgame," due out in early fall from Miramax.

Ideally suited to play the powerful, romantic MacLeod, Paul brings graceful athleticism to the swordplay of the adventure and a unique sense of humor to the often-tragic 400-year-old immortal. His appeal goes far beyond the sci-fi genre, reaching a huge, worldwide mainstream audience that follows the Highlander's exploits as well as those of the actor who portrays him.

Critics note that much of the series' success rests on his sensitive portrayal of MacLeod's internal struggle: the peace-loving philosopher born a warrior, forced with alarming regularity into mortal combat. The stories often incorporated his special talents -- from hung gar kung fu to flamenco -- and much of his sense of humor. Paul, who also directed several of the most notable episodes, will probably follow other Celeb Hunks down the directorial path. With Clooney and Gibson topping box office charts, a fall release of "Highlander: Endgame." is sure to clash with the titans.

Paul is now developing several promising projects including a film based on the life of the misunderstood 18th century Italian adventurer and scholar Giovanni Giacomo Casanova.

By the way, as we alluded to earlier, Paul is not just another pretty face. With production complete on "Endgame", the London born - half Italian hunk - returns to his work with P.E.A.C.E. (Protect, Educate, and Aid Children Everywhere) a fund designed to help ill, abused and needy children. Forget Shaft, this is one cool cat.
