Did everyone see the articles about High-Definition in the Hollywood Reporter and Variety? The lid is off!
In big bold blue letters:"If HD and the 24-P wasn't such a big deal then why are so many people upset about it? Let's face it, the technology is spectacular, and when the price of an HD Set falls low enough, the consumer will be demanding it." Richard Cormier, quoted in the Hollywood Reporter's center caption.
The articles (yes more than one)are in excess of ten pages. Don't get me wrong they wieght in both sides of the debate. Which side comes out on top is a matter of your perspective however one thing was for certain. Hidef is having a major impact in h-town and the business of features (indies).
Variety also published on Tuesday June 27 "Earth takes page from Lucas Playbook". As mentioned some time ago on the boards Earth Final Conflict is also shooting in hidef. Peter Sussman of Alliance Atlantis Entertainment is quoted as follows: "With Lucasfilm announcing they'll shoot most of the live action sequences for 'Star Wars' with the same camera we're using, Alliance Atlantis has proven once again to be on the forefront of emerging technology."

There are many High Definition formats. Standard definition is 525 lines if vertical resolution. You probably only see about 480 lines at home. Some believe that 480p (progressive) is HD. Sony's current HD is
1080i (interlaced) of vertical resolution. They are currently beginning to deliver their new 1080 24p camera. This camera is switchable between 1080 of vertical res. 30i, 24p, 30p, and 25p and 25i (50 Hz standard). One cam for the whole world. Panasonic uses 720p as their standard. Ian
