Slysoft encourages AnyDVD-HD users to go with HD-DVD!

Slysoft the developers of AnyDVD-HD encourages users to support HD-DVD because the format is "consumer friendly" as AACS is not mandatory, no BD+ and no Region Coding. I have to agree on the BD+ and Region Coding. AACS will be used always even though it is not mandatory but no BD+ (the 2nd layer of protection used on Blu-Ray) and no region coding are VERY good things for us consumers who want to maintain OUR FAIRUSE rights. Back in the day the MPAA pledged to provide mechanisms for sharing protected media in the home. This was suppose to start with HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, but with Blu-Ray's extra protection in BD+ it has become obvious that they were never serious to begin with therefore we need guys like Slysoft to help us poor folks out. Thanks to them I am able to playback my HD-DVD movies on my bad ass gaming laptop whenever I want.

Dear valued customer,

We would like to inform you, that a new version of AnyDVD has been released. Here the list of fixes and improvements:

6.2.0.1 2007 11 20
- Note to people considering to invest in HD media: Please buy HD DVD
instead of Blu-ray. HD DVD is much more consumer friendly (e.g., no region
coding, AACS not mandatory, no BD+). Don't give your money to people,
who throw your fair-use rights out of the window.

- New: Installer now terminates processes using ElbyCDIO
- New: Added LBA to dirlist.txt for debugging
- New: Added PowerDVD version information to AnyDVD_Info file
- New (HD DVD & Blu-ray): Support for all MKBv4 titles
- New (Blu-ray): Workaround, so PowerDVD Ultra continues to play, if
AnyDVD is enabled
- New (Blu-ray): AnyDVD ripper copies BD+ titles
- New (Blu-ray): Removed "BD+ not supported" warning, as all available BD+
titles can be copied with AnyDVD ripper, or can be watched on HTPC without
HDCP using PowerDVD 3104 and AnyDVD.
- New (DVD): Improved Layer break removal in AnyDVD ripper
- New (DVD): Added more debugging information of AI Scanner
- Change (DVD): If logging is enabled, AI Scanner is set to "Deep Scan"
for better debugging
- Fix (DVD): CSS and APS problem with certain discs,
e.g. "Hairspray", US
- Fix (DVD): AI Scanner could cause a "CloneSpec 0" error with Alpha-DVD
protected discs, e.g. "Mr. & Mrs Smith", Germany
- Fix (DVD): AnyDVD ripper estimated wrong output size with FluxDVD protected
DVDs, e.g. "Curse of the Golden Flower", UK
- Changelog merged with beta versions
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

Any post-Black Friday info on sales of HD hardware/software? Did a clear leader emerge from the weekend following all of the sales and incentives?

I, for one, got the itchy trigger finger back but....still don't know what to buy....depending on the day you catch me, it could be either format. So, again, I didn't buy anything.

The lack of any BR hardware with the full profile spec is disheartening...especially at the higher price point they are getting for BR. On the other hand, they seem to have the clear lead overseas, and are still outselling HD-DVD on software here. For me, Disney is also a big factor, since I have kids "at that age" and will be buying most of the Disney catalog in high def as soon as I can (though its hard for me to believe that Pixar movies can actually look any better than they already do in on DVD).

Some momentum seems to have shifted to HD-DVD in the states, with the 2 studio defections, and overall lower hardware prices going into the holidays.
But, its still hard for me to invest in a platform that only has the backing of one major hardware provider. I mean, sure, they could all come around...but only if this clearly takes off as the leader...which, to date, has not happened despite a better spec and lower pricing for the last year.

Anyway, any updated sales data?

Software Sales Data

Well, here's a little something I found while you wait for add'l #s:

HIGH-DEF MARKET SHARE - BRD VS HD-DVD SOFTWARE SALES
(11/18/07 - Nielsen/VideoScan):

Week End. 11/18:
Blu-ray Disc: 66 HD-DVD: 34

Year to Date:
Blu-ray Disc: 65 HD-DVD: 35

Since Inception:
Blu-ray Disc: 61 HD-DVD: 39

Movie titles only (videogame titles not included) - Includes HD-DVD/DVD Combo Format

Base on the above, it doesn't appear that Shrek did much for HD-DVD software sales...

Waiting on more specific numbers so recent sales are included.. The Nielson stuff is ok but not very specific terms of titles actually moved. Also waiting on official player sales data as well. I am far more interested in recent player sales than software sales..

lol...you guys might as well face it...HD DVD is NEVER going to sell as much software as blu-ray...as much as people hate to admit it the PS3 is the deciding factor..."but its a game machine" obviously there are alot of people who use it for play BD as well cuz there have not been nearly as many "stand alone" players sold for BD as HD DVD yet the software lead is a healthy 2 to 1 in the US and 3 to 1 in Europe...i think when Warner was discussing a "change of strategy" about a month ago and hinting at becoming exclusive for one format or the other they were talking about going BD exclusive...after all they did talk about this at a BD conference! lol...if your HD DVD exclusive you better get harry potter while you can...lol
