EE Times is reporting that Ricoh has developed an optical component that reads and writes all disk formats—Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD, as well as DVD and CD—with one pickup and one objective lens.

Yes yes yes, I know that it is not out yet and still is being worked on, but MAN this is just what the doctor ordered. As long as the price on a drive like this isn't ridiculous, this kind of technology could really save us consumers from the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD format war.
I just want to buy and watch my movies in peace without worrying that my hi def player is going out of style like disco music...
