Blu-Ray Laptop Anyone?

One thing we can always count on is SONY using everything in its power to retain a strong foothold in any endeavor they undertake. Hey, they dominated the WalkMan...too bad tapes are so two decades ago! So now they're back...from outerspace....trying again to dominate and brand us with Sony Blu-Ray products. Here's what SCI-TECH-TODAY.COM had to say about it:

Quote:
Take the gorgeous, black $3,500 Sony Vaio VGN-AR190G notebook. It has a vibrant 17-inch widescreen display, built-in camera and easily accessible DVD controls above the keyboard. It's the first laptop with a built-in recordable Blu-ray drive. Companies earn bragging rights when they're first out of the gate with a new product. But being a pioneer is fraught with risks. Prices can be obscene. Products too often arrive before the bugs have been worked out.

Have money to blow? Act NOW!

Nobody can convince me that a laptop (as we know them) will meet the power I'm gonna need for all my HD needs. Maybe small little HD home movies...but nothing that I'm willing to spend all my money on. But luckily some schlubs will buy this and they'll get all the bugs out for the next round...and maybe then...I'll have more faith.

Cool Blu-ray laptop

I understand that the supply of the diodes which generate the blue-light lasers used in Blu-ray drives to read and write data may not be that extensive (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/07..._diode_dearth/). Although I am behind Sony 100%, perhaps they should ensure they should have as many PS3s available at launch as possible. After all, the PS3 should be the cheapest Blu-ray player available at that time. For Blu-ray to achieve greatest market penetration, a Blu-ray laptop at $3500 may not be the best thing--now, in Blu-ray's infancy. A $600 Blu-ray player which is also a game console has a much better chance to be embraced by the public. I hope Sony doesn't make the PS3 more scarce than it will already be by diverting PS3 parts to such an expensive laptop.

Go Blu-ray!
