It appears New Line Cinema is holding back on releasing LOTR on HD-DVD because Blu-Ray is not ready yet. We know the HD-DVD version is ready as Screenshots of "Return of the King" leaked in Europe last year. I assume New Line is waiting for the Official Blu-Ray spec (ver 1.1) to become final come Oct 31st (delayed from this spring). That is right, the final spec for Blu-Ray is not ready yet. The final spec defines minimum requirements for players and the group has been riding on a interim spec since the release of Blu-Ray last year. So basically us fine HD-DVD supporters fans are left in the cold until the Blu-Ray group gets their act together. While we wait for LOTR, I encourage you to write New Line and press them to release NOW. New Line can be contacted HERE.
