Ever wonder what type of camera is used by award winning cameraman's? Sony XDCAM is a favorite of award winning Freelance Cameraman Dennis Dillon. Dennis performs camera work for 60 Minutes, Dateline, CBS Evening News ,CBS Reports, National Geographic, NFL Films and a host of others. The XDCAM series is very flexible as a cameraman can output via HD-SDI for uncompressed video or use i.Link (which is Firewire) for compressed HD streams. Using i.Link the cameraman can view, adjust and edit captured material on the fly which is very useful when filming in the wild (as he did in Antarctica - see image above). The XDCAM captures in true 24p in addition to 25p and 30p. The visual quality of the camera is extremely impressive for a camera that can be had for under $30,000.00.
